Video Strategy: How We Think About It At Unbound Media

From college ball to content creation might not sound like a traditional path — but for me, that unconventional route led to something powerful: the launch of Unbound Media Inc.

After my time as an NCAA baseball player, I dove headfirst into a sales career. It was in that high-pressure environment that I discovered my creative side — specifically, through the lens of a camera. Photography became a passion, and passion quickly turned into purpose. What started as freelance work evolved into a full-blown creative agency.

Today, Unbound Media is home to a team of passionate creatives specializing in photo, video, and social media. We’re driven by one goal: to help brands build unforgettable identities through dynamic storytelling. And at the heart of that storytelling?

Video.

Why Video?

Video is more than just a medium — it’s a moment. It's your brand's energy, your values, your mission — all brought to life in motion and sound. Whether it's a 15-second reel or a two-minute brand film, video has the power to build trust faster, evoke emotion deeper, and drive action sooner.

At Unbound Media, we don’t just “shoot and deliver.” We treat video like strategy — because it is.

Our Approach to Video Strategy

We’ve developed a simple framework that guides every video project we take on:

1. Start With the End

Before we hit record, we ask one question: What’s the goal?
Do you want to boost engagement? Drive sales? Introduce a new product? Build brand awareness? Different objectives mean different formats, platforms, tones, and lengths.

We reverse-engineer the creative based on your business goals.

2. Know the Customer

We dive deep into your ideal customer. What do they care about? What do they scroll past? What makes them stop? We’re not guessing — we’re building with intent. Every scene, every word, every frame is designed to connect with the people that matter most to your business.

3. Design for Platforms

A video for Instagram Reels shouldn't feel like a YouTube ad. A TikTok shouldn’t look like a TV commercial. We tailor every video not only to your brand voice but to the platform’s culture — optimizing content to perform natively wherever it lives.

4. Elevate the Brand

Anyone can shoot a video. We build brand. That means understanding your tone, your story, your look and feel — and translating that consistently across all touchpoints. Whether it's a gritty founder story or a high-energy product sizzle, your video should feel like you.

5. Collaborate Like Teammates

Our background in sports taught us a lot about working together. Creativity is a team sport — and we show up ready to play. We bring our expertise, but we also listen. We adapt. We push ideas, but we never lose sight of your vision. Positive energy is our default setting.

Our Mindset

We say it all the time: this is something we get to do — not something we have to do.

That mindset shows up in everything, from our client relationships to our final edits. It’s why our team shows up with energy, curiosity, and a hunger to create. We believe every brand has a story worth telling — and we’re here to help you tell it.

Let’s Create Something That Moves People

If you’re looking to turn your brand into a story people remember, video is the fastest way to do it. And if you’re ready to bring that story to life with clarity, creativity, and a team that gives a damn — let’s talk.

Unbound Media is built for brands and entrepreneurs who want more than content.
We build for those who want to be unforgettable.

The Power of B-Roll: Why the Small Shots Matter Big

When people think about video, they often think about the main shot — the person speaking, the hero product, the cinematic moment.

But there’s a silent MVP in every powerful video we create at Unbound Media:

B-roll.

It’s the cutaway shots. The slow pans. The candid moments. The coffee being poured, the hand on the doorknob, the team huddled over a whiteboard.

It’s the “between” — but it’s what brings everything together.

What Is B-Roll?

B-roll is the secondary footage that supports your main story. It’s used to:

  • Add texture

  • Show instead of tell

  • Cover edits and transitions

  • Set the scene and build emotion

If your interview is the skeleton of a video, b-roll is the skin, the expression, the movement. It’s what brings the story to life.

Why B-Roll Matters

1. It Makes Videos Feel Real

You can say “we’re a collaborative team,” or you can show the team laughing during a brainstorm. You can talk about craftsmanship, or you can show the hands sanding wood, mixing paint, packing boxes.

B-roll proves what your voiceover or interview is saying. It turns claims into visual truth.

2. It Creates Emotion Without Words

Emotion doesn’t just live in faces — it lives in moments. A parent hugging a child. A creator wiping sweat off their brow. A team cheering over a win.

B-roll captures these unspoken beats. It invites the viewer to feel something without telling them how to feel. That’s real storytelling.

3. It Keeps People Watching

Let’s be real — even the best speaker needs visual variety. A video with only talking heads? Easy to tune out.

B-roll keeps the rhythm fresh. It adds movement, contrast, and visual interest. It gives your viewer a reason to stay engaged.

4. It’s a Branding Weapon

Great b-roll builds your brand’s vibe. Whether your style is high-energy, luxurious, minimalist, or playful — the right b-roll sequences set that tone immediately. It can be subtle, but it’s powerful. It’s what makes your video feel like you.

5. It Multiplies Your Content Library

One shoot. Dozens of clips. B-roll footage is incredibly versatile for:

  • Reels and TikToks

  • Website banners

  • Product or service explainers

  • Social ads

  • Behind-the-scenes highlights

If you're investing in content, b-roll turns that investment into assets.

Our Approach at Unbound Media

We don’t just capture b-roll as filler. We plan for it.

We scout environments, map out shot lists, and leave space for spontaneity. We’re always looking for that small moment — the laugh, the detail, the light shift — that takes a video from good to unforgettable.

And when we’re editing, b-roll isn’t an afterthought. It’s a storytelling tool we use with purpose — to build energy, drive emotion, or guide the viewer exactly where we want them to go.

Let’s Roll (Literally)

If you’ve got a story to tell, don’t underestimate the shots between the shots.

B-roll is what gives your story its soul.

Let’s make your brand unforgettable — one frame at a time.

The Power of an Interview: How Interviews Are Great for Storytelling

It all begins with an idea.

Storytelling is the heartbeat of every brand. Whether you’re launching a new product, building a personal brand, or creating a movement, stories are what connect people to your mission.

At Unbound Media, we believe that one of the most powerful tools in our storytelling toolkit is the interview.

It’s raw. It’s real. And when done right, it’s unforgettable.

Why Interviews Work

Interviews unlock authenticity. When someone sits down to tell their story — without a script, without the fluff — something powerful happens. You get emotion. You get truth. You get the why behind the brand.

We’ve used interviews to help founders share their journey, team members explain their passion, and customers reflect on their transformation. And every time, we’re reminded: no visual effect or drone shot can replace a sincere, well-told story.

Here’s why we use interviews in so many of our projects — and how they elevate your content.

1. They Humanize Your Brand

People connect with people — not logos. An interview puts a face and a voice behind your brand. Whether it's your founder, a customer, or an employee, their tone, expressions, and words turn your business into something personal. That connection builds trust — fast.

2. They Unlock Emotion

A great interview captures more than just facts — it captures feeling. It’s the crack in someone’s voice when they talk about overcoming obstacles. It’s the smile that sneaks in when they describe their “aha” moment. Emotion drives memory, and emotion drives action.

3. They Create Evergreen Content

A single 20-minute interview can be repurposed into:

  • A brand film

  • Bite-sized social clips

  • LinkedIn quote graphics

  • Website testimonials

  • Blog posts

You’re not just capturing a story — you’re capturing an entire content library.

4. They Cut Through the Noise

Polished ads and flashy animations are great, but interviews offer a break from the overly produced. When done with intention, interview content feels more like a conversation than a campaign. And that makes people stop scrolling.

5. They Tell the Why Behind the What**

You can show the product. You can list the features. But interviews help you tell the why. Why it matters. Why it was built. Why people choose you. That’s the story people remember — and that’s what drives loyalty.

How We Do It at Unbound Media

At Unbound Media, we treat interviews like an art form. Here’s what makes our approach different:

  • We prep, but don’t script – We guide the conversation but leave room for the unexpected moments. That’s where the gold lives.

  • We create comfort – A camera can be intimidating. We create a space where people feel like they’re just talking to a friend.

  • We find the heart – Every person has a moment where their passion shines through. Our job is to capture that spark.

Ready to Tell Your Story?

If you’ve never sat down for an interview-style shoot before — or if you’ve been relying on scripted videos to carry your message — consider this your sign.

Your story is more powerful than you think.

Let us help you share it with the world.

We’re a video production agency right here in Halifax ready to help you take the world by storm.
